Gender Pricing Stinks
Ladies, next time you’re out shopping, take notice of your beauty products versus their male counterparts. Does your deodorant and shampoo cost more? Most likely the answer is yes.
According to these articles in Forbes and Marie Claire, it’s not just a couple extra pennies here and there; gender pricing can cost women almost $1,400 a year. This 2010 Consumer Report study found equivalent products in drugstores cost more if they are marked for women.
When asked why, companies responded by saying it was more expensive to manufacture products for women. Most female-oriented products do smell and look different, but at the end of the day, serve the same purpose.
Product placement is a factor too. Stores keep gender-specific products in different areas and by doing so vendors are able to hinder comparison shoppers from seeing the price difference. Few women actually go see what male or non-gendered products cost if they are not sitting right next to each other.
At TCCD we do not believe in gender pricing. Our Fragrance Free Roll On is made for anyone and only costs $2.97 at Walmart. The same goes for our Boxed Crystal Stick, and it can last up to a year!
Our goal is to provide products that will keep everyone smelling fresh.
As for all the other beauty products out there, ladies, if you find men’s shaving cream is cheaper, why not use it? We wouldn’t blame you!
